Richard O' Brien says he believes that gold equities will outperform gold bullion in terms of price performance this year.~~

He says this is because of improved operating margins and better leverage among the gold producers.

Also stated is that gold output will continue to decline because of the lack of significant gold mine discoveries in the last several years.

Newmont shares closed up $1.63 on the NYSE. It is the world's second largest gold producer.
