Why Gold was Conficated Before

Gold was the main monetary system and currency of the middle ages but as time passes by it gradually devolved into paper and copper-based coins.~~ Gold coins people owned in that process were confiscated by the government because of devaluation purposes. Fast forward to the present age as gold has become a private property and only few actual gold coins are created (solely for special recognition as like of that of Nobel price medal). Will it be possible that the government will confiscate gold again? Read it here:
